Today is the feast of the Lord’s Epiphany – His manifestation, or showing forth. It recalls three things: the Coming of the Wise Men, which is His manifestation to the Gentiles; His Baptism, which is His manifestation to the Jews; and the miracle of Cana, by which ‘He manifested forth His glory’ (John 2, 11).
Of the three, we put the most focus on the Coming of the Wise Men – because they represent us, ourselves, all nations and peoples called to Christ and to the salvation that He brings.
This is why we say that the Epiphany is our own feast, the feast of all peoples, called by God to salvation.
